Dermal fillers are used to restore volume and soften lines and folds we acquire through ageing, in the face, neck and chest. When injected into these lines and folds, they can plump up the skin and sculpt facial contours, restoring the skin to its former youthful appearance.
What are they?
What can’t they achieve?
Dermal fillers cannot lift loose or sagging skin, for which a different approach is necessary. Solutions to this can be discussed during an initial consultation.
There are many different types of filler in use today, but only a few have delivered consistently safe, effective, long-term results with minimal side-effects. I use one or more of the following fillers:
Juvederm Ultra is a range of smooth consistency gels, which are injected, to restore volume, fill in lines, wrinkles and folds and to redefine lips. Ultra contains Lidocaine, a local anaesthetic which helps make the treatment process comfortable. Ultra is not granular which means that it is able to flow easily into the skin. This results in a smooth and natural appearance. Juvederm Ultra Smile is dedicated to the lips and mouth area and is selected to enhance lip volume, redefine lip shape and to treat vertical lip lines and depressions at the corner of the mouth. Juvederm Hydrate is a clinically proven treatment to bring deep hydration to the face, neck, décolletage and hands. It has been specially formulated to be injected just under the surface of the skin to improve hydration, tone and elasticity.
Is a new generation of hyaluronic acid gels that can be used to correct lines and give more volume to lips, cheeks or the facial outlines. Belotero is a particularly soft gel that feels natural and smooth. It is completely biocompatible and biodegradable, meaning that it both poses a low risk of allergic reactions and degrades slowly and naturally.
Radiesse is an injectable subdermal implant, made of calcium-based microspheres and a gel. Radiesse Volumizing Filler is a unique product, in that it both provides an immediate replenishment of lost volume and provides a scaffold, the latter stimulating the skin's natural collagen production. The natural results are clinically proven to last a year if not longer.
Emervel is a scientifically advanced and sophisticated range of softer HA dermal fillers, that are new, well-established and currently in fashion, formulated through a unique process called Optimal Balance Technology™. The range, currently consisting of five variants, is versatile and offers a product tailored to individual treatment needs, from softening lines and wrinkles to volume-lifting and reshaping contours. All variants are designed to maximize patient comfort, containing lidocaine as a local anaesthetic.
These are a brand new approach to increase skin hydration, smoothness, elasticity and firmness. Its range comprises three products: Restylane Vital, Vital Light, and Lip Refresh. The treatment involves micro-injections of HA as a soft gel-like substance into the skin. They all contain the anaesthetic lidocaine to maximize patient comfort during the treatment. They boost, revitalise and restore the hydro-balance of a depleted skin on the face, neck, decolletage, lips and hands. Skin elasticity, tone, vitality and smoothness are given an incredible boost, creating a naturally fresh and youthful appearance. They are injected with a uniquely designed injector to get a high quality and even volume delivery.
Skinboosters are for all skin types, for men and women in any age group, who want to improve their skin texture and tone in a subtle, gradual way. A noticeably invigorated, youthful and radiant look to the skin is achieved after a start-up course with a minimum of three sessions, each two weeks apart. Two courses a year are recommended to maintain results. Skinboosters can be used as a stand-alone treatment, but can be combined with any other aesthetic treatment.
As with all our treatments we will take a medical history to make sure there are no reasons why you shouldn't have this treatment. You will be asked to read and sign an informed consent form.
For your personal comfort, an anaesthetic cream will be applied 30 minutes prior to injection of the filler. Once the area is anaesthetised, the filler is carefully injected into the treatment area. When Radiesse is injected lidocaine is used as an anaesthetic already mixed with the filler, making no additional anaesthetic cream is necessary. If you choose to, you will be able to return to normal daily activities (except sport) immediately. The treatment session lasts about 30-60 minutes, excluding the anaesthetic application time.
You may experience some temporary bruising redness and swelling after your treatment which can be disguised with concealer make-up. In very rare cases, an allergic reaction to a filler may develop, but this is exceptional.
All dermal fillers produce some immediate results, though the full effect can take several weeks to develop. None is permanent, lasting usually 9-12 months. To maintain the results the treatments need to be repeated.
