Genuine dermaroller therapy stimulates natural skin regeneration and scar repair.
A dermaroller is a tool that contains columns of minute precision needles mounted on a roller, which are used to stimulate the damaged skin. These tiny needles, which come in various sizes, rotate on the roller and penetrate the skin to a depth of up to 2mm.
Studies have shown evidence that the micro-needling produces skin regeneration and rejuvenation, and scar repair.
This works because, when naturally stimulated by extremely fine needle-pricks, skin develops more collagen.
Collagen is the basic building-block of skin and youthful skin is characterised by abundant collagen growth.
Therefore, naturally stimulating collagen production using the Dermaroller results in a younger, fresher, healthier and more vibrant appearance.
Treatment courses normally comprise 3 to 5 individual treatments. These are normally performed 6 weeks apart.
Before the procedure, your face will be numbed with an anaesthetic cream. We then treat the area with the appropriate Dermaroller. Most people find the treatment mildly uncomfortable, but not unbearable. At the end of the procedure, your skin will be slightly red and is likely to remain so for the rest of the day.
Excess sun exposure following the treatment should be avoided. A total sunblock will be applied when the treatment is finished.
By the next day, your skin should return to normal and you will be able to work and perform most social activities.
The skin changes are not immediate, with skin collagen content increasing gradually over six weeks following treatment. Changes observed are the following:
No visible signs of improvement will immediately be obvious though improvement in texture and tone begin 1 week onwards. Improvement in pigmentation begins 3 weeks after treatment. Over the following month, there will be a gradual and lasting improvement in your skin quality.
Most people start with a 3 treatment course, but you can have further treatments as and when you choose to. For more serious conditions a five-treatment course is usually needed to achieve the best results.
Since the dermaroller treatment stimulates a natural healing process within the body, side-effects are quite rare, especially when the treatment is given in strictly sterile conditions. As already mentioned, redness of the treated area is normal, but will settle down within 24 hours.
